Make sure the microphone is plugged into the writer and the writer is turned on.

- Press the Up or Down buttons to move the arrow to the option you want to change.
Microphone Gain - Indicates the current gain setting for the microphone. Press the + or - buttons to increase or decrease the gain.
For Diamante users we recommend starting anywhere between 125% and 140% and to adjust as needed. For Luminex users we would recommend starting between 75% to 85%.
Headphone Volume - Indicates the current volume level for the audio playback through headphones. Press Quieter or Louder to adjust the volume. A recommended starting point is 65%.
Record Audio During Job - This setting must be set to On, in order to record audio. Press the On/Off button to change the setting.
Note: This setting cannot be changed while a job is open on the writer.
Monitor Live Audio - allows you to listen to the recording live with some amplification through headphones plugged into the writer. Press the On/Off button to change the setting.
Note: When monitoring live audio during the job, the audio is amplified. You may need to adjust the Headphone Volume, to listen at an appropriate level.
Auto Pause Resume - allows you to automatically pause the recording after a specific period of time, when no new steno is being input from the steno machine. Audio will resume recording once you start writing again. Press the + or - buttons to set the time before the audio is paused.
Audio Format - sets the codec for recording audio.
ADPCM (14.7 MB/hour) - This codec has better quality than the GSM codec and is a good midrange codec to use for audio quality. This codec is also compatible with most other CAT software.
GSM (5.8 MB/hour) - This codec has the lowest quality out of the three codecs but is still good while taking up the least amount of space. This codec is also compatible with most other CAT software.
Opus (14.7 MB/hour) - This codec is only available on Luminex writers and has good audio quality while using the same amount of memory as the ADPCM codes. To listen to this file in CATalyst you must be using version 20.07 or higher.
Press the Change button to change the codec.
- Microphone Gain - Indicates the current gain setting for the microphone. Press the + or - buttons to increase or decrease the gain.
