The following are steps to installing the Stenograph USB Writer drivers on your computer. The drivers are compatible NexGen, Luminex I/II, Diamante, Stentura Fusion, and èlan family of writers.

If you are on CATalyst version 22 or higher, the drivers are installed automatically by running the CATalyst updater or by downloading and installing CATalyst 22.14 from the CATalyst downloads page. To run the updater, in CATalyst, click Help, Check for Updates (Alt-h, u).

If you are using CATalyst 21 or lower, or are using another CAT software, the drivers will need to be installed manually.

Downloading and Installing the Stenograph Writer Drivers

Make sure your writer is connected to your computer with a USB cable and on before you install the drivers.

  1. Download the Stenograph Writer Drivers from the Stenograph website.

  2. Navigate to the location where you saved the drivers, usually the Downloads folder, and right click on the file and click Extract All.

  3. At the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders dialog box, click Extract.

  4. In the new window that appears, double click the StenographUsbDrivers folder. Now double click on StenographDriverInstall.exe. A DOS window will display.

NOTE: You may be presented with a blue box saying "Windows protected your PC". The Stenograph USB drivers are safe to run. Simply click More info in the upper left, then click Run anyway in the lower right corner to continue the installation.

  5. The drivers will install automatically. Once the drivers are installed the DOS window will close and the installation is complete.

NOTE: During installation, you may recieve a Windows Security dialog box asking if you want to install the device software from Stenograph LLC. This is normal so click Install to install the driver.

  6. To confirm the drivers are installed, make sure your writer is plugged in and on, then right click on the Start button and left click on Device Manager. When Device Manager opens, click the arrow next to Ports (COM & LPT) and you should see Stenograph Writer Serial Port (COM X). Now click the arrow next to Universal Serial Bus Devices. You should see StenographWinUSB. If you see both, the drivers are installed correctly and you can close Device Manager.
