MAXScribe can be used on Mac computers provided it meets the following requirements:
The Mac must have an Intel processor. Apple ceased using Intel processors in November of 2020 in favor of their own processor called the Apple "M" series of processors (M1, M2, M3, etc.). These processors are not compatible with current versions of Windows due to no driver support. This also means that MAXScribe will not work on Macs with "M" series processors. Please verify which processor is on the Mac computer before purchasing.
You must use the Apple Boot Camp utility and install Windows 10. Apple has not released information about compatibility between Boot Camp and Windows 11 so we do not recommend installing Windows 11 using Boot Camp.
NOTE: Windows 10 will reach its End of Support on October 14, 2025 and will no longer be receiving updates from Microsoft. This can leave your Windows 10 computer vulnerable to security attacks. Stenograph cannot guarantee the compatibility of MAXScribe on Windows 10 or Boot Camp after that date.
Virtual PC programs like Parallels and VMWare Fusion create a virtual Windows environment on your Mac. We strongly do not recommend using these programs as a solution since they run inside the Mac OS. This setup can cause issues with the amount of memory allocated to run Windows, Mac OS and MAXScribe at the same time. Driver and hardware support may also be limited when using these programs. When using Boot Camp to run Windows, all of the systems resources are available to Windows exclusively.
The Mac must also meet or exceed the system requirements for MAXScribe. If not, then you may experience errors, MAXScribe running slowly, or computer crashes.
